Hey West End, Meet Serena!

We are thrilled to officially open the doors to our newest location in the heart of Vancouver’s West End. This new location is steps away from English Bay located at Denman & Nelson. At the helm of this new location is General Manager Serena Deorksen! If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her yet, here is a little Q&A to get to know her a little better.

Q: Tell us a bit about your role here at Muse Cannabis

A: I started with Muse back in November as a Wayfarer at our South Granville location, but am currently stepping into my new position as the General Manager of our newest location in the West End!

Q: You have years of cannabis industry experience. What has been the most surprising thing about post-legalization?

A; I’ve been in the cannabis industry for the past six years. It still feels like just yesterday when I started at my first cannabis store, but so much has happened since then! It’s interesting to me that, for what seemed like a long time, BC was one of the only places in Canada where you could walk into a ‘dispensary’ and get cannabis. Since legalization, there are many places across the country that greatly outnumber us in the number of cannabis stores they have. It’s surprising to me that the rollout in BC has been so slow compared to other places, considering our extensive history with grey-market cannabis stores.

Q: What is your go-to consumption method?

Concentrates! For my partner and I’s five year anniversary this year, we splurged on a Puffco Peak and I swear it has changed my dab game for life. I’ve been very impressed by the quality of the concentrates that are available on the legal market and look forward to seeing what other product releases are on the horizon.

Q: We’re excited to be in the West End. So far, what’s your favourite thing about the neighbourhood?

The West End has some great Japanese food! I’m a really big fan of Kingyo, which is just down the block from the new store. I’ve had my eye on Sushi Aboard for a while and am really excited to finally try it. We’re also just a 15-minute walk from Konbiniya where I get all my favourite Japanese groceries.

Q: There are a lot of misconceptions about cannabis. Which myth is your favourite to bust?

A: It’s not so much a misconception or myth, but I do really enjoy talking to people about the other components of cannabis that play a role in what they are experiencing when they consume. There is a big movement right now to educate consumers about factors to consider aside from just the concentration of THC in a product and I love to see it.

Q: Cultivar names keep getting wilder. If you could name a cultivar, what would you call it?

A: There’s a cultivar in a Sims 4 cannabis mod I have that’s called “Komorebi Fantasy”, named after a town called Mt. Komorebi in the game. So if I had the chance, I would breed a real-life Komorebi Fantasy.

Come say hi to Serena and the team at Muse West End! Located at 999 Denman Street. We are open 7 days a week, 9am - 11pm. See you soon!
